Clinical Observation of Joint Hyperlaxity in 600 Korean People

Abstract
Presence of joint hyperlaxity was examined in 600 normal. Korean boys and girls, 300 each, which were further divided into 20 groups, 15 each- in number, according to the ages of individual between after birth and less then 20 years. The five diagnostic criteria of Carter and Wilkinson were adopted in this study.
1. Of these 600 subjects, the overall joint hyperlaxity. numbered 66(11%), of which the boys and girls were 21 and 45 respectively, the girls presenting a higher incidence than the boys.
2. Comparative study of the number in each group showed ¢¥that the highest incidence present at the 2-year-old group tended to show gradual decline, though at about 13 years of age, a secondary increment could definitly be noted.
3. The secondary rise was more evident in. the girls than in the boys and with the study of thumb,. hand and foot.
4. It can be assumed from this study that certain definite interrelationship may exist between the joint-hyperlaxity and the amount of estrogen level of each individual.
